Recently Google made a change in how it handles search queries. It now processes these through a secure connection to maintain the privacy of those searches. What this means for users and marketers is that they loose most of that data and when they look in analytics to see organic search and search term traffic patterns (how users found their site.) What they will see is “not provided.” This creates a little bit of a black hole and an opportunity for Google, its suspected that they might offer a paid version of Analytics that allows access to this data and they suggest (Google) that there are other ways to see parts of this information through adwords and webmaster tools – which has useful information just not as robust as the previous abilities provided by analytics. It was done as part of security concern but it definitely takes away from the “quality” of information that is found in Analytics.
